Reading 'About' Twitter was helpful and was going into the link Twitter 101 for Business. Searching using Libraries was interesting and produced several informative links right away. Currently the info we post is program advertising for the most part. Perhaps we could open separate account/s to strike up some conversations relevant to library staff and users.

I enjoyed the tour of Library Thing. It was easy to navigate and I especially liked the ability to vist, live, the catalogue enhancements, the reviews enhancement and the shelf browse enhancement. An excellent resource.

The Google docs tour was an eye opener. One can do so much - perhaps everything we need. It could definitely threaten the dominance of MS Office. I can see whole organizations moving to it. For now I will use what I have for the most part. The new creating and editing drawing function looks excellent.

Both Flickr and Youtube are user friendly. I found the Flickr tour especially useful as I had no idea about the range of options available.

There are some interesting google products. I have found google scholar to be useful in the past and enjoyed google earth. Google books seems a bit deceptive as they only offer limited previews/information when you might think you are going to access full text free.

Facebook was an interesting exercise. Making contact with friends one hasn't seen in years is a wonderful use for it not to mention highlighting upcoming events for friends

For the Wikipedia element I went to the entry on the writer Garry Wills, and was surprised that the entry was as short as it is given that he has written over 40 books. As his newest book, 'Bomb Power' , has just arrived I thought I would check the accuracy of the ISBN number and sure enough it was wrong - and so I fixed (edited) it - a "minor" edit.
The entry on Wikipedia itself was very good, especially the section on "Using Wikipedia as a Research Tool", and " Strengths, Weaknesses, and Article quality in Wikipedia". This should be mandatory reading for anyone relying on Wikipedia for information.

cpl 2.0

Our Calgary Public Library Favorites on Delicious is an excellent collection of reference tools. As a group it is well managed as only relevant, up-to-date and easy to use materials are provided. Being able to select a particular tag and having all others with that tag appear is helpful as is the listing of related tags.

I'm looking forward to learning about the different aspects of social media, and how they will contribute to the future of the library
